I worked with David Pevsner briefly at Celebration Theatre in West Hollywood a little over a decade ago and knew he was very talented. I had never seen his one man show before now though and am mightily impressed. Few actors are this courageous, honest, and uncompromising in their performances as Pevsner is. Not only is he an expert showman with an instinctive gift for telling a story through song, but he has learned to be unafraid to share his own colorful life, admitting to his faults as well as his successes in Life. Unlike many other one person shows, we're not sure (just as Pevsner himself isn't) whether or not his story is going to ultimately be a triumph or a tragedy. He carries us with him all the way to a rather bittersweet ending, yet I am sure he will deal with whatever Life finally brings him with grace and humor. The show was well and simply filmed. One gets the sense of actually being in the theater with Pevsner, another aspect that makes this DVD worth acquiring, especially for people who love theater. There isn't a lot of tricky, clever editing to make the viewer think this is a movie or a sitcom. Like the performance, it is directed honestly and without pretension. Accompanist David O is equally superb, participating and commenting on the drama from the piano (it doesn't hurt that he's a big, handsome Bear too!)With live theater very rare right now because of the Covid-19 virus, DVDs like this are even more to be treasured. All lovers of theater, gay, straight, bi or whatever should get this. Everyone can relate to some part of Pevsner's show because it is about the search for love and humanity. In today's crazy world, we need this!
