Decades after they were separated, architect Peter Ibbetson and his childhood sweetheart, Mary, are reconnected when her husband hires Ibbetson to design a building. The relationship between the pair is rekindled until Ibbetson accidentally kills a man in self-defence and is sent to prison. Soon, he is visited by Mary in his dreams...
