Complete set of Shakespeare plays produced for the BBC from the late 70s through the early 80s. The set comes in a box that can be opened from the front so the titles are on display. It seems every Shakespeare play has been included in alphabetical order, thirty seven in all. A smallish booklet with background info along with details about the several dramas accompanies the set.I've only seen two so far, All's Well that Ends Well and The Winter's Tale. Production values were solid in both. Both were set in the 16th/17th century. Though The Winter's Tale had a somewhat abstract landscape. Looking through the booklet gives some indication that most if not all will be set in the period indicated by the originals. Many familiar names appear in the credits: Jon Finch, Helen Mirren, Claire Bloom, Trevor Peacock. I was pleasantly surprised that I haven't duplicated any of these movie versions of Shakespeare plays. The BBC has been careful about this, I suppose. Run time has been two and a half hours on average.I bought this because I've had trouble finding movies of the more familiar plays that haven't been modernized or greatly altered in content. I also like some of the less popular plays. Overall, I'm quite impressed.
