Expecting any real appreciation of Joyce Grenfell by the vast majority is a pretty rough, uphill climb - a big ask. I think it would have been difficult to find hoards of real American admirers of Joyce's talent 45 years ago and today with no cultural touchstones supporting what she does - her brilliant, heartfelt, touching and o so funny work - it seems to me that Joyce has become something of a footnote here in the USA. In the UK that is not the case but who knows what another couple of decades will prove? Perhaps I will be proven wrong and there be a resurgence of interest in her timeless monologues and songs. In the meantime please don't miss this CD. It will keep giving as long you keep playing it. Joyce always said this would be so. She was right.
