Oldest tracks on BEST OF COMEDY, MCA's small 1995 cassette and CD comedy compilation, are Buddy Hackett's 1953 CORAL waxings of "The Chinese Waiter" and "Chinese Laundry," released on a 45 rpm single and an LP entitled HOW DO YOU DO?In the mid and late-70s, Foster Brooks was warm-up act at Frank Sinatra concerts, doing a character he also played on MCA's THE LOVABLE LUSH (1973). "The Los Angeles Earthquake," that album's closer, has Brooks and wife making love at 6 am when a temblor strikes. The topically-titled "She Coon of Women's Lib" is the first cut on Mississippi-born Jerry Clower's COUNTRY HAM (1974) LP, his fourth MCA release. In Rodney Dangerfield's first record, "What's in a Name" (from 1966), he has the cadence of Pat Cooper, isn't yet the boisterous "I don't get no respect" clown of later work. This routine was issued with tracks taped a couple of years later on MCA's album of the same name.Bill Cosby's selections are the first three from FAT ALBERT (1973). "Fat Albert Get's a Hernia" is an edit from Bill's earlier UNI set, WHEN I WAS A KID, tracks made in 1965 but not issued until '71. This Albert LP marks Cosby's final recorded mention of the corpulent Mr. Robertson.
