A fascinating list of the unsung heroes and heroines of (mostly UK) comedy. There are choices that make you think "Forgotten? Surely not!" with entries for Dick Emery, Jimmy Edwards, Jimmy Clitheroe & Danny Ross and Mike & Bernie Winters but as the author himself says, they fall into the category of well known but eclipsed by others around at the time; a prime exmple being Scots singer and comedienne Maidie Dickson, very talented but in the shadow of her husband, the great Chic Murray. For myself, cursed with the "Isn't that whatisname/Whatserface? that used to be in thingy on the telly with whosit, you know, the big bloke with laugh" syndrome, it's a godsend and includes a biography of my favourite "Whatisname" - David Battley. One of those wonderful books you can just leaf through whenever you want and find something interesting. If you've ever asked yourself "Whatever happened to...?" (and not continued... Leon Trotsky), this is the book for you.
