A beautifully austere film set in 1961 Poland and shot in black & white. Before taking her final vows a novice nun is encouraged to meet her one known relative, her aunt, who reveals that her family background is Jewish and that her birth name was Ida. The two go on a journey to discover what happened to Ida's parents during the war.
